Students may benefit from a timer for a variety of reasons, including motivation, self-regulation, and attention to task.
Example:
A teacher sets a timer for independent reading and says to the class, “Yesterday you successfully read independently for 10 minutes. Let’s try to beat that time for 11 minutes today!”
