Use task checklists with students to demystify lesson objectives and help them track their progress.

Example:

Provide student with a checklist that says,

“Did I….?”

  • Write an opinion statement?
  • Give three supporting reasons?
  • Write a concluding sentence?
  • Re-read my work and ask, “Does it make sense?”?
