When students are early readers they use pictures to support understanding of the text; Informational texts and adolescent novels rarely include pictures, therefore, one way to address this is to pair those reading passages with a visual.
Example:
In the images below, the teacher is reading a passage about the prehistoric life called “How Cave Dwellers Work”. This passage describes a life that today’s students cannot imagine so the text is paired with the pictures to support comprehension and increase visualization.
