Instead of passing back graded work to take home, have students reflect on their graded work with a portfolio.
Example:
Once a month, pass back student work and portfolios and have them analyze their assignments from the beginning of the school year until that point. Provide them with a guided checklist for focus on what they feel proud of, what they have learned and what they still hope to improve upon. Ask students to select work to add to their portfolio and write a short explanation about why this belongs in their portfolio.
