Instead of giving students a list of words to learn each week, allow students to select their own vocabulary words using rating scales

Example:

In this example, you see that students are provided with a list of words and have to identify their familiarity with the word.  The next step is to use the words they do not know as their personal, vocabulary lists for the upcoming week.
